Each year, the Hawaii Captive Insurance Council ("HCIC") recognizes an individual and an institution that has provided valuable contributions to promote, develop, and maintain the captive insurance industry in the State of Hawaii. The HCIC created its Award of Excellence as a way to thank an honor those, who, by their dedication and commitment, exemplify HCIC's mission and vision.

The Award of Excellence, is the highest recognition given by the HCIC to a Hawaii-domiciled captive insurance company. The Award recognizes The Mutual's, long standing history and dedication to Hawaii as a captive domicile; as well as Christopher Mertes' contributions as a past member of the HCIC Board of Directors; and The Mutual's standing as a recognized insurer of professional liability insurance in the acute care continuum space, as reflected in its A.M. Best "A" rating. Underscoring The Mutual's success are the dedication and efforts of The Mutual's Board of Directors, Officers, and staff, who all work as a team, along with The Mutual's service providers, on behalf of The Members and insureds of The Mutual.

Given the past institutional Awardees, and the scope, depth and quality of other captive insurance companies domiciled in Hawaii, the recognition conferred upon The Mutual as the recipient of the 2019 HCIC Award of Excellence, is indeed a great honor.
